"Han Gikk" means "He left" in Norwegian. This painting is about a woman who has suffered much abuse, and seeing her man walk out the door again in anger she seems almost ignorant to his repeated destructive behaviour. Her heart is cold, tired, to the point of numbness. So instead of the endless worry, she dreams of the one place where she peace - the mountains.

We all carry memories: Here, a woman recalls herself as a little girl playing with her father (or perhaps her husband playing with her daughter?). Her deceased grandfather appears in the top right corner, content in his favorite chair. The family cabin is now deserted and the dramatic red imply drama, but the bouquet of flowers speak of reverence and affection.
