In her Memory

We all carry memories: Here, a woman recalls herself as a little girl playing with her father (or perhaps her husband playing with her daughter?). Her deceased grandfather appears in the top right corner, content in his favorite chair. The family cabin is now deserted and the dramatic red imply drama, but the bouquet of flowers speak of reverence and affection.

Auschwitz-Birkenau

With its strong red sky and bold message, I consider this to be my main work of 2007. Some have asked what drove me to paint such a destructive scene. The answer is because it's a part of me and my family history. What started this project was hearing the leader of a large country, speak at the UN and claim that the holocaust never took place. Hearing this provoked me to make a statement: To say something with my art that could transmit the reality of the mass murder (my great-grandparents were murdered there, my grandmother survived).
